Maharashtra May Invest in Modern Marathi Films to Attract Gen-Z, Ashish Shelar Says

The Maharashtra government will consider investing in modern, technology-driven Marathi films aimed at attracting younger audiences, particularly Gen-Z viewers, state Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar said on Tuesday in Mumbai.

Speaking on the state's vision for regional cinema, Shelar stated that the government is open to supporting filmmakers to help expand the reach and relevance of Marathi cinema among the youth.

According to the minister, state backing would depend on the creation of a sustainable framework. Shelar said the state would extend its support if a viable model encompassing production, distribution, screening infrastructure, and audience development could be established.

The initiative aims to encourage filmmakers to adopt modern production techniques and appeal directly to evolving entertainment preferences across the state.
