Maharashtra MBBS Cutoffs Rise Across Categories in First Merit List

The cutoff for MBBS admissions in Maharashtra has risen sharply this year across major categories following the release of the first selection list by the State Common Entrance Test Cell.

In government medical colleges across the state, the cutoff for open-category applicants climbed to 538 marks in the first merit list, rising from 509 marks last year. The upward trend across government institutions reflects the impact of the Re-NEET and overall increased cutoffs.

The increase in government medical college cutoffs was observed across reserved categories as well. The cutoff for Other Backward Classes (OBC) candidates increased from 505 marks last year to 533 marks this year. For Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC) candidates, the cutoff score went up from 504 to 529 marks.

Candidates in the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category also faced higher admission thresholds in government colleges, with the cutoff rising from 488 marks to 513 marks. For Scheduled Caste (SC) applicants, the cutoff increased from 431 marks last year to 463 marks this year. For Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates, the cutoff experienced a jump from 342 marks to 384 marks.

In private unaided medical colleges, changes in the cutoff scores were far more modest compared to government institutions. The open-category cutoff for private medical seats moved up slightly from 479 marks last year to 482 marks this year.

Some reserved categories in private unaided institutions saw slight reductions in required scores. The OBC cutoff for MBBS admissions dipped marginally from 479 to 476 marks, while the SEBC cutoff fell from 477 to 462 marks. However, private college cutoffs for other categories rose, with the SC cutoff increasing from 423 to 437 marks and the ST cutoff climbing from 329 to 358 marks.

Despite the noticeable rise over last year's figures in government institutions, this year's cutoffs remain substantially lower than those recorded in 2024.
