Maharashtra Plans Modern Fish Market and Cold Storage in Malegaon

The Maharashtra government will establish a modern fish market, cold storage, and a fish vending centre with supporting infrastructure in Malegaon in Washim district, Fisheries and Ports Minister Nitesh Rane announced during a review meeting at Mantralaya in Mumbai on Tuesday.

Rane instructed administrative officials to immediately identify a suitable site for the proposed fish market in Malegaon and submit a detailed project proposal to the state government. He stated that the government would actively pursue the project to ensure local residents and vendors receive modern, well-equipped facilities.

The planned facility in Malegaon aims to provide better working conditions for local fishermen and fish vendors while offering consumers a clean, organised space for buying fish.

During the meeting, the minister also reviewed the ongoing construction of a modern fish market in Sangli, being built under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana. Rane instructed authorities to complete the remaining work at the earliest and schedule an inauguration date soon.

The review meeting was attended by Fisheries Department Secretary N. Ramaswamy, Fisheries Commissioner Bhanudas Palve, MLA Bhavana Gawali, and several district and municipal officials. Sangli-Miraj-Kupwad Municipal Commissioner Sanjeeta Mohapatra attended the proceedings via video conference.
