Maharashtra Receives Over 6 Lakh Voter Applications During SIR, Pune Tops List

The Maharashtra Chief Electoral Officer received 6,24,054 applications for new voter registrations, corrections, and objections across all 36 districts between August 31 and October 4, according to official data released during the Special Intensive Revision. Pune district topped the state by recording the highest number of submissions, accounting for 56,605 forms.

The large influx of voter applications followed the publication of the draft electoral rolls on August 31. Out of a total electorate of 9,78,54,049 voters in the state, 7,71,65,562 individuals were retained on the draft rolls.

A significant portion of the electorate, amounting to 2,06,88,487 voters or 21.14 per cent of the total, had been omitted from the draft rolls and placed under the ASDDO category, which covers absent, shifted, dead, duplicate, and other voters.

To address these exclusions, the state poll body organised special camps directly at polling stations across Maharashtra. These camps were designed to facilitate the re-enrolment of citizens who were left off the lists and to process objections and necessary corrections.

Over the five-week window following the release of the draft lists, prospective voters and citizens seeking corrections submitted their paperwork through these outreach drives and designated channels, culminating in more than 6.24 lakh processed forms statewide.
