Maharashtra Reclaims 34 Acres Of Prime Mumbai Land Valued At Rs 50000 Crore

The Maharashtra government has successfully reclaimed nearly 34 acres of prime government-owned land across Mumbai, valued at approximately Rs 50,000 crore, following a series of coordinated anti-encroachment drives.

Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule announced the recovery of the land in the state Legislative Assembly during a session preceding July 10, 2026. Speaking in response to a discussion in the House, Bawankule commended the district administrations for their decisive action in clearing the encroachments. The minister specifically praised the leadership of Mumbai Suburban Collector Saurabh Katiyar and Mumbai City Collector Aanchal Goyal, who directed the enforcement operations in their respective jurisdictions.

The anti-encroachment drives successfully cleared three major government-owned land parcels. According to official details shared in the Assembly, these parcels measured 14 acres, 11 acres, and nine acres, making up the total reclaimed area of nearly 34 acres.

The two senior administrative officers who led the reclamation efforts have been in their positions for over a year. Saurabh Katiyar, a 2016-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, was appointed as the Mumbai Suburban Collector in May 2025. Similarly, Aanchal Goyal, a 2014-batch IAS officer, took charge as the Mumbai City Collector in May 2025.

The recovered land represents some of the most valuable public real estate in the city, with an estimated market valuation of Rs 50,000 crore. The state government has not yet disclosed the specific future plans or developmental projects slated for the newly reclaimed land parcels.

While the minister highlighted the successful execution of the drives, further details regarding the specific locations of the 14-acre, 11-acre, and nine-acre plots within the city were not detailed in the legislative discussion. The administration has also not provided a timeline for when the cleared parcels will be put to public or official use.
