Maharashtra Signs MoU for Mumbai Water Metro Vessels and ₹150 Crore Talawane Factory

The Maharashtra Maritime Board has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Zoya Marine Services Pvt. Ltd. at Mantralaya in Mumbai to supply modern vessels for the Mumbai Water Metro project and establish a new electric boat manufacturing facility at Talawane in the Sawantwadi taluka of Sindhudurg district.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Ports and Fisheries Minister Nitesh Rane. The project represents a ₹150 crore investment and will be developed over an area of nearly 22 acres in Talawane, aiming to promote green marine transport and modernise shipbuilding in the state.
Speaking at the signing event, Minister Rane stated that the state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, is focusing on attracting major investments to the maritime sector. Rane noted that the initiative will strengthen the maritime economy of Maharashtra by providing advanced Water Metro vessels and establishing an electric boat manufacturing industry. He added that the project is expected to create new employment opportunities for local youth and encourage the adoption of modern shipbuilding technologies.
Under the terms of the signed agreement, Zoya Marine Services Pvt. Ltd. will supply environmentally friendly and technologically advanced vessels designed for the Mumbai Water Metro project. The establishment of the state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Sindhudurg is intended to strengthen Maharashtra's overall maritime infrastructure.
The meeting at Mantralaya also served as a forum for detailed discussions regarding the implementation of the project. Officials and representatives focused on key areas such as investment, technical collaboration, skill development, employment generation, and the future growth of the maritime industry in Maharashtra.
The event was attended by several high-ranking officials and company representatives. Among those present were Additional Chief Secretary (Transport and Ports) Sanjay Sethi and senior officials of the Maharashtra Maritime Board. Zoya Marine Services was represented by its directors, John Fernandes and Suraj Devadhiya, alongside Ambar Ayande and Dr. Nilesh Banawalikar.
