Maharashtra to amend Mumbai Police Act to plug dance bar loopholes, says CM Fadnavis

On Tuesday, June 30, 2026, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced in the state assembly that the state government will amend the Mumbai Police Act. The decision, revealed during the ongoing monsoon session of the legislature, aims to plug legal loopholes currently being used by dance bar operators to bypass strict regulations.
Speaking in the state assembly, Chief Minister Fadnavis explained that the proposed amendment will ensure that establishments conducting dance performances are licensed strictly under the provisions of the Dance Bar law. This move is intended to close the legal gaps that have allowed operators to evade regulations.
Chief Minister Fadnavis further addressed the public sentiment surrounding the issue, stating that the state government is fully aware of public concerns regarding dance bars. However, he noted that the government must operate within constitutional boundaries while implementing these laws.
The amendment to the Mumbai Police Act is slated to be introduced during the ongoing monsoon session. Under the new provisions, any establishment hosting dance performances will be required to obtain strict licensing under the Dance Bar law. This step is expected to prevent operators from using legal loopholes to bypass the state's regulatory oversight.
The announcement, reported by the PTI, represents the state government's latest effort to enforce strict compliance among dance bar establishments across Maharashtra.
