Maharashtra To Repair Shivshahi Project In Dindoshi And Fast-Track Housing Schemes

On Tuesday, Maharashtra Housing Minister Shambhuraj Desai announced in the Legislative Assembly that the state government will issue immediate directions to the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) to undertake urgent repairs and safety measures at the Shivshahi Rehabilitation Project buildings in Dindoshi. The announcement was part of a broader state initiative to fast-track pending housing projects, slum rehabilitation schemes, and redevelopment plans.
Replying to a discussion under Rule 293, Desai stated that the government has initiated action at various levels to resolve long-pending issues in the housing sector. The goal of these actions is to ensure faster implementation of key housing projects across Maharashtra.
To address issues related to providing houses to eligible mill workers, a dedicated committee has been constituted. This committee is headed by the Additional Chief Secretary (Housing) and is expected to submit its report shortly.
Desai also informed the House about other regional housing developments. A proposal to construct 40,000 affordable houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in Nagpur has been sent to the Central government for approval. Additionally, in Amravati, the government has approved a project to develop around 8,000 affordable rental homes to assist economically weaker sections and migrant workers.
In Mumbai, the tendering process is currently underway for a working women's hostel designed to accommodate around 150 occupants. MHADA is also actively pursuing the redevelopment of old and dilapidated cessed buildings in Mumbai to ensure eligible residents receive permanent rehabilitation homes.
To accelerate Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) and cluster redevelopment projects in Mumbai, the government has introduced a single-window clearance mechanism. This system aims to speed up approvals and reduce project delays. Regular meetings of monitoring committees are also being held to oversee these redevelopment projects and welfare initiatives for senior citizens.
Desai reiterated the government's commitment to providing safe, quality, and affordable housing. He noted that suggestions made by assembly members during the discussion would be considered positively to strengthen housing policies and improve project implementation across the state.
