Maharashtra to Translate Mahatma Phule's Works Into Seven Languages

The Maharashtra government will translate the entire literary works of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule into seven languages, State Culture Minister Ashish Shelar announced during Phule's bicentennial celebrations at the PL Deshpande Maharashtra Kala Academy in Prabhadevi, Mumbai.

The works will be translated into Hindi, Sindhi, Gujarati, Sanskrit, Telugu, Bengali, and Gor Banjara. The state government's cultural affairs department operates dedicated Sahitya Akademis for each of these seven languages.

The announcement was made during a one-day translation workshop organised at the Prabhadevi academy on Thursday. The workshop aimed to facilitate literary exchange through the respective Sahitya Akademis.

According to officials, the primary objective of the initiative is to encourage the translation of outstanding Marathi literary works into different languages, while also bringing notable literature from other languages into Marathi.

Speaking at the event, Shelar emphasised that quality Marathi literature should reach readers of other languages, and exceptional literature from across the country should be made accessible to Marathi readers.
