Maharashtra Transport Department Hikes PUC Certificate Fees Across State

The Maharashtra Transport Department has revised the fees for Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates for all categories of motor vehicles across the state. The updated fee structure has been made mandatory for implementation at all authorised PUC centres operating in Maharashtra.

The decision to revise the rates follows a formal demand submitted by the Maharashtra State PUC Centre Owners Association, who had requested an increase in testing charges. In response, the Transport Department constituted a three-member committee to evaluate the proposal. The committee reviewed prevailing PUC testing rates across other states before submitting its report recommending the upward revision.

Under the newly approved rates, the testing fee for two-wheelers has increased from Rs 50 to Rs 60. For petrol-powered three-wheelers, the charge has been raised from Rs 100 to Rs 120. Motorists driving four-wheelers and other vehicles running on petrol, CNG, or LPG will now pay Rs 150, up from the earlier rate of Rs 125. The testing fee for diesel-powered vehicles has been increased from Rs 150 to Rs 180.

The Transport Department has issued directives instructing all PUC centre owners to prominently display the revised fee structure at their respective facilities. Departmental officials have also been tasked with ensuring that the new charges are implemented uniformly across every centre in Maharashtra.

To prevent overcharging, authorities have been directed to maintain strict oversight and ensure that vehicle owners are not charged beyond the officially prescribed rates. Necessary instructions will also be issued to the Vayuveg squads to monitor compliance on the ground and take strict action against any testing centres found violating the mandate.
