Maharashtra Urges Citizens To Avoid Monsoon Tourism Amid Heavy Rains In Mumbai

On Monday, July 6, 2026, the Maharashtra government issued an advisory urging citizens to avoid monsoon tourism at waterfalls, beaches, and other scenic spots across Mumbai and other parts of the state due to heavy rains. The safety warning was prompted by widespread disruption, flooding, landslides, and falling trees that have caused severe inconvenience and a loss of lives.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis led the state's response by chairing a rainfall review meeting at the State Emergency Operation Centre on Monday. The meeting was called to address the severe weather conditions that have battered the region over consecutive days.

According to the state government, the unprecedented rainfall has caused major challenges for citizens and commuters. In Mumbai, the weather situation reached critical levels as the city recorded rainfall equivalent to its entire average monthly quota for July in a span of just four days. This rapid accumulation of water has triggered a red alert for several locations, with authorities also expecting gusty winds to accompany the heavy downpours.

In light of these hazardous conditions, the government has specifically called on youngsters and other tourists to stay away from popular monsoon destinations, including waterfalls and beaches, until the weather conditions show signs of improvement.

The ongoing monsoon crisis has also sparked political debate. The Opposition demanded an official statement from the government, highlighting that multiple people had lost their lives and many others were facing severe hardships because of the continuous heavy rains.

Responding to the Opposition's demands, Chief Minister Fadnavis expressed disapproval of political parties engaging in a blame game during a crisis. Fadnavis stated that while he could speak about the record of the previous regime if the Opposition insisted, he chose not to do so because it would not serve any practical purpose for the families affected by the tragedies.
