MahaTET Cancelled After Paper Leak In Bhiwandi Affecting Six Lakh Aspirants

The Maharashtra Teachers Eligibility Test (MahaTET) scheduled for June 2026 was cancelled on Saturday following a question paper leak in Bhiwandi, leaving six lakh aspirants in limbo. The decision to call off the state-level examination was made just a day before the test was scheduled to take place. The exam, which was meant to be held on Sunday, was called off immediately after the leak was detected.
Following the sudden cancellation, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe to investigate the security breach. The announcement of the cancellation sparked a massive furore on social media, with lakhs of affected candidates expressing their outrage over the disruption.
The leak was discovered after three suspects were found in possession of the examination paper in the Bhiwandi locality. According to official reports, it was found that several questions in the possession of the three individuals were identical to the questions on the official TET June 2026 question paper. Following this discovery, a criminal case was registered against the suspects at the Bhiwandi Police Station.
This incident marks the second major examination controversy for the government within a very short span of time. It comes barely a week after the government attempted to rectify a similar question paper leak in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) by conducting a retest. With the MahaTET leak occurring just a day before the scheduled test, the administration now has another significant controversy on its hands.
With six lakh candidates now facing complete uncertainty, the SIT probe ordered by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will investigate how the confidential question paper was leaked to the suspects in Bhiwandi. The local police and the newly appointed investigation team will look into the network behind the leak to ensure accountability. The sudden cancellation has disrupted the plans of lakhs of teacher candidates who had prepared for the June 2026 test.
