Major Leak in Mumbai-III Pipeline at Teen Haath Naka Prompts Emergency Repairs

Emergency repair operations were launched after a major leak was detected in the 3,000 mm diameter Mumbai-III water pipeline near Teen Haath Naka in Thane, along the Eastern Express Highway. The incident has raised concerns over a potential impact on water supply in parts of Mumbai.

The massive pipeline is situated underground at a depth of around 3 to 4 metres below ground level and is protected by an outer casing. Its location deep beneath the surface makes access difficult and renders the ongoing repair work technically challenging.

Following reports of the leak, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation officials and repair teams were deployed to the site. Personnel are currently working to access the pipeline, pinpoint the exact source of the leak, and execute the required repairs.

At the site, workers have entered a large excavation pit to assess the damage and stop water loss, while a JCB has been stationed in the area to assist with digging operations. The Mumbai-III pipeline is a vital part of the regional water distribution network, and civic authorities are monitoring the situation closely while carrying out repairs on a priority basis.

Civic officials indicated that the technical complexity of reaching and repairing the protected, underground pipeline means the operation is expected to take time. The administration is working to plug the leakage and safely restore the pipeline as quickly as possible.

In light of the ongoing repairs and potential disruptions to supply, the municipal corporation has appealed to citizens to use water judiciously.
