Malad West Crash Video Emerges After Car Hits Couple, Auto-Rickshaws

Video footage has surfaced showing the moment an electric car rammed into a couple on a two-wheeler and collided with three auto-rickshaws at the Mamledarwadi junction in Malad West, an incident that claimed the life of a 35-year-old lawyer.
The crash occurred at around 8 PM on August 30 while 35-year-old lawyer Priyanka Satra and her husband, Mayank, were travelling home. The couple had stopped at a red signal at the Malad West junction when an MG Windsor driven by 65-year-old Krushna Chamankar struck their vehicle from behind.
The impact severely injured both riders. Priyanka Satra succumbed to her injuries during medical treatment. Her husband, Mayank, survived the collision and is currently out of danger, though doctors noted that he will require further surgeries.
After striking the couple, the car continued forward and crashed into three auto-rickshaws at the junction, injuring multiple people. The injured auto-rickshaw drivers were identified as Subhedarchandra Chaudhary, 50, Ramkesh Rajbhar, 35, and Abdul Shaikh, 25. A passenger travelling in one of the three-wheelers, 48-year-old Jaitunabi Sab, suffered a head injury that required 20 stitches.
Police arrested the driver, Chamankar, following the collision to determine whether he was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Investigating officers took the driver to Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali West to collect blood samples, which were subsequently forwarded to the state forensic science laboratory in Kalina for chemical analysis.
Chamankar was produced before a local court on Monday following his arrest. The court initially remanded him to judicial custody, after which he was granted bail.
Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kirit Somaiya shared the footage of the incident on his official X account on Thursday, demanding strict and stringent action against Chamankar, whom he referred to as a scamster. Police stated that further investigations into the crash remain underway.
