Malwani Police Book Principals of 14 Illegal Schools Following BMC Complaint

The Malwani police in Mumbai have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the principals of 14 unauthorized primary schools operating in the Malwani locality. The legal action was initiated following a formal complaint lodged by the private primary schools department of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

According to the BMC's official complaint, a widespread investigation conducted during the 2025-26 academic year revealed that a total of 164 primary schools were operating illegally across Mumbai. Among these unauthorized educational institutions, 14 were identified as operating specifically within the Malwani area.

In response to these findings, the BMC's private primary schools department initiated regulatory action earlier this year. In March 2026, the civic body served official notices to the principals of the 14 identified schools in Malwani. The notices demanded that the school administrators provide a written explanation within a week detailing why their illegal operations should not be shut down immediately.

However, the school principals failed to coordinate with the civic administration. Despite receiving the official notices and being given a one-week deadline to explain their status, none of the administrators got back to the BMC. Instead, they continued to run and operate the unauthorized schools without the necessary permissions.

Following the non-compliance and continued operations of the institutions, the BMC's private primary schools department compiled a comprehensive list of the 14 schools, including their names and precise addresses. This list, alongside copies of the original notices served to the administrators in March, was formally communicated to the Malwani police.

Based on the documents and complaint provided by the BMC, the Malwani police registered the FIR against the principals of the 14 illegal schools to initiate criminal cases and legal action against the administrators.
