Man Arrested for Knife Attack on Elderly Parents at Yari Road

The Versova police arrested a 27-year-old man on Sunday after he allegedly attacked his elderly parents with a kitchen knife at their residence in Manik Moti Apartments on Yari Road in Andheri. The assault occurred on Saturday morning around 11:00 AM after the man woke up to the sound of his parents engaged in a verbal altercation.

The accused, identified as Nabeen Qureshi, allegedly slashed his 70-year-old father, Ejaz Qureshi, and 63-year-old mother, Mobina Qureshi, on their faces during a fit of rage. Despite committing the violent attack, Nabeen himself took both of his injured parents to Tunga Hospital in Andheri West for medical treatment immediately following the incident.

A neighbour who observed the elderly couple bleeding as they were being taken to the medical facility alerted the local authorities. Upon arriving at Tunga Hospital, police officers found that Ejaz had sustained severe injuries and was admitted for treatment, while Mobina received medical care for her injuries and was later discharged.

The details of the assault were outlined in a statement provided to the police by the accused's younger brother, Hajik Qureshi, a 25-year-old civil engineer. Hajik stated that Nabeen had woken up around 11:00 AM and walked into the kitchen, where he found his parents quarrelling before grabbing the kitchen knife.

Following the incident, officers from the Versova police station detained Nabeen and recovered the knife used in the attack from the family's home at Manik Moti Apartments. During questioning, Mobina told police officers that her son had been undergoing treatment for depression for the last two years, suggesting that his mental health condition might have contributed to his sudden outburst.

Senior Police Inspector Deepshikha Ware of Versova police station stated that an FIR has been registered against Qureshi under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 109(1), which covers attempt to murder, and 118(2), which pertains to voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons. The accused was officially arrested on Sunday and will be produced before a local court.
