Man Arrested in Chembur for Allegedly Killing Friend with Motorcycle

Police have arrested a 44-year-old man in Chembur after he allegedly deliberately rammed his motorcycle into his friend following an argument at Thakkarbappa Colony on Wednesday night, leading to the victim's death.

The accused has been identified as Bharat alias Dharmendra Mishra, a resident of Chembur who operates a small grill-making business and ran a lottery business in the locality.

According to a complaint lodged by 21-year-old Hemant Balothia, a Chembur resident employed at Dhanda Welding, the incident occurred at around 10:45 pm on August 12 near Vasantnagar and Triveni Bar in Thakkarbappa Colony.

Investigators stated that a dispute broke out between Mishra and the victim. Following a heated argument, Mishra allegedly threatened to run the victim over with a vehicle. He then rode his motorcycle at high speed and directly struck the victim.

The victim suffered severe injuries to his head, legs, and stomach in the collision. He was taken to a hospital for emergency treatment, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Senior Police Inspector Firojkhan Pathan of the Nehru Nagar Police Station confirmed that the accused and the deceased were acquainted with each other prior to the altercation.

On August 13, the police registered a case under Sections 103(1) (murder), 109(1) (attempt to murder), 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way), and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Charges were also filed under Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act, which pertains to dangerous driving.

Police officials are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the altercation. Investigators are examining CCTV footage and gathering other evidence from the neighbourhood to reconstruct the exact sequence of events.
