A 42-year-old man was arrested by the Vashi police on Monday for allegedly killing his 65-year-old widowed mother at their residence in Ashtavinayak society, Sector 11 in Juhugaon, Vashi. The fatal assault occurred on Sunday evening following disputes regarding the man's marital relationship.

The accused, identified as Mahesh Ratnakar Kadam, allegedly murdered his mother, Nanda Ratnakar Kadam, by strangling her and banging her head against the floor. According to investigators, the attack took place after 6 pm on Sunday. Police stated that Mahesh attacked his mother because she was preventing him from staying with his estranged wife, who had previously separated from him due to continuous quarrels with the victim.

The incident came to light at approximately 9:10 pm when a resident of Ashtavinayak society alerted the local authorities. Following the alert, two beat marshal constables from the Vashi police station arrived at the third-floor apartment and detained Mahesh.

The victim was rushed to the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) Hospital in Vashi for emergency medical care. However, doctors at the hospital declared her brought dead on arrival.

Senior Inspector Shashikant Chandekar of the Vashi police station confirmed that Mahesh was formally arrested on Monday early morning from his apartment. The police registered a case against him under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Mahesh was employed as part of the housekeeping staff at Mindspace IT Park in Juinagar and lived in the Juhugaon apartment with his mother. The police noted that the accused's 49-year-old brother-in-law, Mangesh Kashiram Devlekar, a resident of Mankhurd, was named as the complainant in the case after neighbours informed him of the crime and he arrived at the building.
