Man Arrested in Kandivali East for Adulterating Branded Milk Packets

The Samta Nagar police have arrested a 48-year-old man from Kandivali East for allegedly adulterating milk of popular branded companies and preparing to sell the contaminated product to local consumers.

The accused has been identified by officials as Iranna Lingayya Gopanabonei, aged 48, residing at Ramujagar Chawl in Laxmi Nagar, located near the Damunagar Last Bus Stop in Kandivali East.

According to police authorities, investigators received specific advance information indicating that the accused was actively adulterating branded milk at his residential premises. The intelligence further suggested that he was planning to distribute and sell the adulterated milk directly to customers in the area.

Acting on the information, the Crime Detection Team from the Samta Nagar police station conducted an early morning raid at the suspect's residence at around 5.50 am on August 12, 2026. During the operation, police officers allegedly caught the accused red-handed in the act of tampering with the dairy products. He was found mixing impure water into one-litre and half-litre packets of branded Amul and Gokul milk.

Following a search of the premises, the police team recovered and confiscated approximately 74 litres of adulterated milk bearing the Amul and Gokul brand labels from his possession. Along with the adulterated milk, personnel seized various materials allegedly utilized to carry out the adulteration process, as well as a supply of fake empty milk packets carrying the brand names of Amul and Gokul.

The Samta Nagar police have formally registered a First Information Report against Gopanabonei under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita alongside the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and other applicable rules and regulations. The accused was placed under arrest following the seizure, and police confirmed that further investigation into the case remains underway.
