Man Arrested with Country-Made Pistol and Ammunition at Dahisar Check Naka

The Dahisar police have arrested a 34-year-old man after allegedly finding a country-made pistol and six live cartridges in his possession at Dahisar Check Naka in Dahisar East.

The accused has been identified as Sandeep Upadhyay, a resident of Kurar Village in Malad East who works in fabrication. The firearm and ammunition, collectively valued at approximately Rs 45,000, were seized during the operation.

According to police, Crime Detection Officer Assistant Police Inspector Indrajit Patil received specific information around 5:35 pm on August 21 stating that an individual was carrying a firearm in the Dahisar Check Naka area. Following the tip-off, senior officers were briefed, and a crime detection team was assembled to verify the details and initiate action.

The police team positioned themselves in Dahisar East and intercepted Upadhyay near the Mahanagar Gas pump on the south channel. A search was conducted in the presence of two officials, during which an iron country-made pistol and six live cartridges were allegedly recovered from him. Officers confirmed that Upadhyay did not hold a valid licence to carry the weapon.

A case was subsequently registered against Upadhyay at Dahisar police station under Sections 3 and 25 of the Arms Act, alongside relevant provisions of the Maharashtra Police Act, including Section 37(1)(a) read with Section 135.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of senior officials, including Deputy Commissioner of Police Gajanan Rajmane. Further investigation into the origin and intended use of the weapon is currently underway.
