Man stabbed near Mahim railway station after accidentally breaking phone

A 35-year-old man was brutally stabbed near Mahim railway station (West) in Mumbai on Thursday night after accidentally bumping into an unidentified pedestrian, which caused the man's mobile phone to fall and break. The victim, identified as Naveen Subhash Prasanna, suffered severe and life-threatening abdominal injuries during the sudden confrontation, which occurred at approximately 10:00 PM.
Prasanna had just alighted from a slow local train at the Mahim station and was making his way back to his home when the accidental collision took place. According to the victim, he immediately tried to defuse the situation by apologizing to the pedestrian. Prasanna later recounted that the moment he bumped into the man, he started apologizing, but he did not know who the individual was and did not realize at that moment that the assailant's phone had fallen to the ground.
Despite his immediate apologies, a violent scuffle quickly broke out near the station. The unidentified assailant attacked Prasanna, stabbing him deeply in the left side of his abdomen. The physical trauma from the knife wound was extremely severe. Within an hour of the encounter, the 35-year-old victim ended up at Sion hospital with his entrails spilling out from the abdominal injury. Prasanna remains at the hospital where he is currently convalescing and receiving medical care.
The violent incident near the railway station has significantly heightened public concerns regarding commuter safety across Mumbai. The attack occurred just 48 hours after another fatal transit-related stabbing in the city, where a 22-year-old man was stabbed and killed aboard a Nalasopara-bound local train. The rapid succession of these two violent encounters has fueled deep anxiety among local residents who frequently use the local train network.
