Mankhurd Woman Duped of Rs 19,000 in ATM Card Swapping Fraud

Mankhurd Woman Duped of Rs 19,000 in ATM Card Swapping Fraud

A woman lost Rs 19,000 on August 5 after two men allegedly spied on her PIN and swapped her ATM card at an HDFC Bank ATM near Mangal Murti Junction in Mankhurd.

The incident occurred while the victim was completing her transaction at the ATM kiosk. According to police reports, two men watched her closely as she entered her personal identification number on the keypad.

Using sleight of hand, the accused secretly replaced her genuine ATM card with another card during the transaction process. Unaware of the fraudulent switch, the victim took the substituted card and left the ATM premises believing she still had her original card.

Using her stolen card and the PIN they had memorised, the fraudsters subsequently withdrew Rs 19,000 from her account.

Upon discovering that she had been duped and that funds had been taken from her account, the victim approached the authorities and filed an official complaint.

The Mankhurd police registered a case in connection with the theft under Sections 303(2) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The alleged accused in the case have been identified as Parvez Akbar Ali Sheikh and Kismat Ali Barkat Ali Sheikh.
