Mantralaya, Legislature to Get 'Kalayan' Time Display Machines Costing Rs 10.97 Lakh

The Maharashtra government has approved the procurement and installation of two 'Kalayan' time display machines at Mantralaya and the state legislature building in Mumbai. The initiative will showcase traditional Indian astronomy alongside standard and GPS time at the key administrative complexes.

According to an official order issued by the Cultural Affairs Department on Friday, the government will spend Rs 10.97 lakh to procure and install the two devices across the designated premises.

The 'Kalayan' machines are designed to feature multiple sets of temporal and astronomical data. Alongside standard time and GPS-synchronized time, the displays will present sunrise and sunset timings, planetary positions and movements, and the traditional panchang.

The project is aimed at presenting traditional Indian astronomical knowledge and time calculation systems alongside modern timekeeping technology inside key state government buildings.
