Maharashtra’s Marathwada region has received 18 per cent less rainfall than its average so far during the current monsoon season, with Latur and Parbhani recording the most significant deficits according to official data.
The region, which comprises the eight districts of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Beed, Parbhani, Latur, Dharashiv, Hingoli, and Nanded, has recorded 365 mm of rainfall so far this year. This amounts to approximately 82 per cent of the expected seasonal average of 444.9 mm.
The current figures mark a sharp decline in precipitation compared to the rainfall recorded across the region during the corresponding period last year.
Among the affected districts across the Marathwada belt, Latur and Parbhani have witnessed the steepest drop in rainfall numbers compared to their normal seasonal averages.
