Massive fire destroys tyre warehouse in Bhiwandi's Nimbavali
A massive fire broke out at a tyre and wooden pallet warehouse in Nimbavali, near Kombdawada and the IGM Hospital area in the Bhiwandi area of Thane district, in the wee hours of Sunday. The blaze completely engulfed the facility, which is located along the Mumbai-Nashik Highway, sending thick plumes of black smoke into the sky.
Speaking to reporters, fire official Suresh Mhatre confirmed the incident and the deployment of emergency services. "A massive fire has broken out here in Nimbavali. It is located near Kombdawada and the IGM Hospital area. We currently have three fire engines deployed at the spot," Mhatre said.
In a video shared by PTI on X, formerly known as Twitter, the warehouse could be seen completely engulfed in flames. The fire destroyed the stockpiles stored inside the structure. Due to the high intensity of the fire, thick black smoke was seen releasing from the site as firefighters made every effort to bring the blaze under control.
According to Mhatre, the warehouse contained a large stockpile of tyres and other raw materials, which contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. Despite the scale of the incident, all workers and other individuals present at the warehouse were safely evacuated after the fire brigade arrived at the scene. This quick evacuation ensured that no casualties or injuries were reported.
"There is no one trapped inside," Mhatre added, confirming that everyone had been accounted for. However, the firefighting operations faced significant hurdles due to a shortage of resources at the site. "We are running short of water, and the management is not arranging for more. Our three fire engines are currently active and working at the scene. Firefighting operations are underway," Mhatre explained.
The warehouse and its stockpiles of tyres and raw materials were completely destroyed in the incident. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, and further investigation is underway to determine what triggered the blaze.
