Mayor Ritu Tawde to File Complaint Against Kishori Pednekar After BMC Office Clash

A high-voltage political confrontation erupted at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters in Mumbai on Friday, July 3, 2026, after Opposition leader Kishori Pednekar entered the office of Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde. The clash led to the Mayor accusing Pednekar of trespassing and announcing plans to file a police complaint.

Pednekar visited the Mayor's office to question why her letters regarding monsoon-related civic issues had allegedly not been accepted or answered. The Opposition leader stated that she had written to Mayor Tawde on March 30 seeking a meeting to review the BMC's monsoon preparedness, but the communication remained unanswered even after the monsoon began.

"I had sought a meeting to discuss critical monsoon-related issues that are now unfolding, including tree collapses and the danger posed by open manholes," Pednekar said. She alleged that the Mayor had no time for these civic issues and remained occupied with other matters.

Mayor Tawde strongly refuted the actions, accusing Pednekar of entering her chamber without permission while the Mayor was away inspecting monsoon preparedness works. Tawde claimed that Pednekar browbeated officials and staff, used threatening language while demanding files, and recorded videos on her mobile phone.

Tawde further alleged that Pednekar photographed confidential documents after calling for files from the Mayor's office through the Municipal Secretary. Describing the incident as "gross misconduct" and a "serious breach of office protocol," Tawde announced she would lodge a formal police complaint against the Opposition leader.

At the time of the incident, Mayor Tawde was inspecting waterlogging hotspots around Mumbai, including Cotton Green railway station, Reay Road, and the Sewri Fire Station, amid heavy rainfall in the city.
