Metro Crane Breakdown At Juhu Circle Triggers 2 km Traffic Jam In Andheri West

A heavy crane deployed for Metro construction broke down at Juhu Circle in Andheri West in the early morning hours on Thursday, causing a massive traffic backlog stretching nearly two kilometres. The breakdown occurred following a night of girder installation for the Metro 2B project, leaving the heavy equipment blocking a key portion of the roadway.

To manage the obstruction, authorities converted the northbound carriageway into a two-way road. The sharp reduction in available road space led to long traffic queues on either side, with congestion spilling over into surrounding areas across Andheri. Visuals of the scene showed vehicles lined up along one side of the lane while efforts were underway to remove the broken machinery.

The Mumbai Traffic Police issued an alert on its X account advising motorists to avoid the stretch. Commuters were asked to avoid the route towards Juhu Circle near D.N. Nagar due to the crane breakdown. No casualties or injuries were reported following the incident.

A Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) engineer present at the site assured that traffic on the stretch would soon be restored. Officials stated that the crane had malfunctioned and a spare part was called for to repair and shift the equipment.

By 1:30 pm, parts of the crane had been removed, allowing one lane of the southbound carriageway on Cosmopolitan Education Society Road to reopen for vehicle movement.
