Mexican Tourist Confronts Mumbai Driver Overcharging for 2 Km Ride in Viral Video

A video circulating on social media has captured an encounter between a Mumbai driver and a foreign tourist, in which the driver demanded Rs 500 for a two-kilometre ride after falsely claiming the distance covered was nearly 20 kilometres.

In the footage, the passenger repeatedly asked the cab driver about the total distance travelled and the fare required for the trip. The driver insisted that the vehicle had covered nearly 20 kilometres and asked the passenger to pay Rs 500.

To test the driver, the tourist entered an amount of Rs 5,000 on the digital payment platform PhonePe and displayed the screen. The driver immediately agreed to accept the sum and refused to offer any reduction on the fare.

The situation shifted when the passenger, identified as a Mexican tourist, switched from speaking English to fluent Hindi. Shocking the driver, the passenger confronted him in Hindi, saying, "Bech Khaoge Tum Desh Ko" (You would sell your own country).

The tourist calmly advised the driver against engaging in dishonest practices, telling him that such actions bring shame to the nation.

The passenger ultimately settled the fare by transferring Rs 100 through PhonePe. After the payment, the driver claimed he had known all along that the passenger was familiar with the area and requested an additional Rs 100. The tourist refused the extra demand, paid only Rs 100, and walked away from the vehicle while invoking the phrase "Atithi Devo Bhava."
