MGL Partners With India Post For Gas Meter Readings Starting In South Mumbai

Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has announced a partnership with the Department of Posts (India Post), Maharashtra Circle, to utilize local postmen for carrying out door-to-door domestic gas meter readings. The new service will begin with an initial pilot project in South Mumbai before being expanded to other parts of the city in phases.
The partnership, which was officially announced on Wednesday, makes MGL the first City Gas Distribution (CGD) company in India to partner with India Post for domestic gas meter reading services. According to an official statement, the project will leverage the existing network of postmen to record readings directly from households.
According to MGL, the service is designed to streamline the domestic gas meter reading process across Mumbai. The pilot project in South Mumbai will serve as the initial phase of the rollout. After assessing the pilot, the joint initiative will expand to other neighborhoods across the city in a phased manner.
This domestic utility partnership between the Maharashtra Circle of India Post and the city's gas distribution company marks the first time a postal department is being integrated into gas meter reading services in India.
