Milind Deora Condemns Mumbai Police Officer Pushing Cyclist During VIP Movement

A video showing a Mumbai police officer allegedly pushing a cyclist and moving his loaded bicycle out of the way during a VIP convoy movement has drawn sharp criticism, including from Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora. The incident has renewed concerns across Mumbai over the treatment of ordinary commuters and workers during temporary road restrictions for VIPs.

The viral footage shows a man attempting to navigate through a barricaded section while carrying goods on his bicycle. As traffic restrictions were being enforced to clear the route for a VIP convoy, a police officer approached the cyclist and pushed him away from the path.

The man appeared to lose his balance and fall during the encounter. Following the push, the officer moved the bicycle aside to ensure the restricted stretch remained clear of obstructions for the incoming convoy. The clip quickly circulated across social media platforms, drawing criticism over the manner in which the cyclist was handled by law enforcement.

Reacting to the footage on X, MP Milind Deora condemned the incident and stressed that the identity of the VIP should not dictate how members of the public are treated.

"Regardless of who the VIP was, pushing a working man and his bicycle is 'unacceptable,'" Deora wrote. He also tagged the official handles of the Mumbai Police and the Mumbai Traffic Police, urging them to intervene. "@MumbaiPolice and @MTPHereToHelp, please take strict action and make sure this doesn’t happen again," he added.

The video triggered strong reactions among social media users, who demanded accountability and questioned whether disciplinary action would follow. Commenters called for greater empathy from police officers when interacting with individuals who rely on bicycles and handcarts for their livelihoods, noting that security arrangements for VIP movements must not come at the expense of basic courtesy toward ordinary citizens.
