Minor Detained for Abetting 24-Year-Old Woman's Suicide on Vashi-Mankhurd Train

The Vashi Government Railway Police (GRP) has registered a case of abetment to suicide and detained a 17-year-old boy after a 24-year-old woman died by suicide by jumping from a moving local train between Vashi and Mankhurd near the Vashi creek railway bridge on August 1.

The deceased has been identified as Priyanka Mithu Ram, a resident of Ghansoli who worked as a sales girl at an agritech platform store in the area. She lived with her widowed mother, elder brother, sister-in-law, and two children.

According to Vashi GRP senior inspector Kiran Undre, the complaint was lodged by the woman's 26-year-old brother, Mahadev Ram Mithu. The complainant alleged that his sister took the extreme step due to severe mental stress caused by the accused teenager, who hails from Bihar.

Police said the victim and the accused were in a relationship. The juvenile allegedly refused to marry her and threatened her by sending screenshots of semi-nude videos when she attempted to persuade him into marriage. Following the allegations, investigators invoked provisions of the Information Technology Act alongside the abetment charge for violation of personal privacy.

The 17-year-old, who had been working in Kalyan for the past two months, was detained rather than arrested due to his juvenile status. He was subsequently produced before the Juvenile Justice Board at Bhiwandi, which ordered him to be sent to a juvenile shelter home.

Investigators seized the accused's mobile phone and discovered that the victim's obscene images had been deleted. Inspector Undre stated that the device will be sent to a forensic laboratory to retrieve the deleted data.
