Minor Driving Liquor Van Kills Pedestrian in Nalasopara

A 16-year-old boy allegedly driving a car loaded with a liquor consignment ran over two women pedestrians in Nalasopara (East) on Wednesday evening, leaving one dead and another seriously injured.
Tulinj police have booked and arrested the minor, along with the vehicle owner Rajesh Shah and registered driver Mahesh Naik.
The incident took place near Datt Nagar while the two victims, identified as Shreya Misal, 34, and Pragati More, 36, were walking home. Both women resided in Nagindas Pada in Nalasopara (East) and worked as domestic help. They had traveled to Vasai for work earlier on Wednesday and got off at the Nalasopara railway station around 4:30 pm before heading toward their homes.
While they were walking, a grey Maruti Eeco allegedly reversed and struck them. According to Senior Inspector Vijay Jadhav of the Tulinj police station, the 16-year-old boy worked as a cleaner for the vehicle. The accident occurred while he was attempting to reverse the car as the regular driver was standing outside a nearby shop.
Local residents immediately rushed both women to Rakiya Hospital in Nagindas Pada. Misal suffered severe injuries to her head, back, waist, and knee. She succumbed to her injuries during treatment around 9:45 pm that night.
More sustained serious injuries in the accident as well and underwent surgery on her hand on Thursday at the hospital.
