Missing Nalasopara Man Found Dead Near Monkey Hill Point After Falling From Train

The body of a 55-year-old resident of Nalasopara (East) was found near Monkey Hill Point on the Karjat–Lonavala railway section on Tuesday night, after he reportedly fell from a moving train. The deceased, Chandrakant Shantaram Chavan, had gone missing during a train journey to Satara and was declared dead at a local hospital at 8:05 pm.

Chavan was a resident of Siddhi Homes Co-operative Housing Society in Nalasopara (East), Palghar. According to the Khopoli Police, he had been travelling by train to Satara when he went missing along the route. His wife had previously registered a missing person's complaint with the police after he failed to reach his destination.

The breakthrough in the search came when the Pune Railway Police spotted an unidentified injured man lying below the railway tracks near Monkey Hill Point on the Karjat–Lonavala railway section. The Pune Railway Police subsequently alerted Chavan's family about the discovery. Chavan's relatives rushed to the location and officially identified the deceased man as Chavan.

Following the identification, personnel from the Khopoli Police Station, with the assistance of local residents, shifted the injured man to the Khopoli Municipal Hospital. Upon arrival at the hospital, doctors declared him brought dead at 8:05 pm on Tuesday.

Police Inspector Sachin Hire of the Khopoli Police Station stated that, prima facie, it appears Chavan fell from the moving train and sustained fatal head injuries. He added that the exact cause of death will be officially confirmed after the post-mortem examination is conducted.

The Khopoli Police have registered an accidental death case under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Further investigation into the circumstances of the fall is currently underway.
