MLA Prashant Thakur Leads Panvel Infrastructure Review on Water and Traffic
MLA Prashant Thakur chaired a high-level review meeting in Panvel, Navi Mumbai, to outline a long-term infrastructure roadmap focusing on strengthening the city's water security and easing traffic congestion. The meeting brought together senior civic officials, elected representatives, and Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) functionaries to plan for the rapidly growing city.
The proposed Shilar Dam project emerged as a key agenda item during the discussions. Regarded as crucial for Panvel's long-term water supply, officials discussed mobilising funds for the project through various government schemes and financial assistance. The dam is expected to provide additional water to the municipal corporation to support the expanding population.
The meeting also reviewed a proposal to increase the height of the Dehrang Dam to enhance its storage capacity. This proposal, which was previously discussed in the General Body meeting, will be taken forward following detailed technical, environmental, and administrative assessments. Increasing the storage capacity is expected to improve water availability and enable better utilisation of rainwater collected during the monsoon.
Additionally, officials conducted a detailed review of the Nhava-Sheva Water Supply Scheme (Phase III). With new residential townships, industries, educational institutions, and commercial establishments putting pressure on existing water infrastructure, directions were issued to resolve technical challenges and ensure the timely completion of the scheme.
To address local transport bottlenecks, the administration was directed to expedite the construction of railway overbridges at key locations. This measure aims to reduce traffic delays at railway level crossings and improve overall connectivity.
MLA Prashant Thakur emphasised that Panvel is emerging as a major urban centre, driven by projects such as the Navi Mumbai International Airport, Atal Setu, JNPT, Metro, and new highways. He directed all departments to work in coordination to complete ongoing projects on schedule.
The review meeting was also attended by Mayor Nitin Patil, Deputy Mayor Pramila Patil, Leader of the House Paresh Thakur, Standing Committee Chairman Baban Mukadam, and local corporators.
