MLA Zeeshan Siddique Files Police Complaint in Bandra Over Death Threat Voice Note

MLA Zeeshan Siddique visited Bandra Police Station on Friday and filed a non-cognisable (NC) complaint after receiving a death threat through a voice note sent to his mobile phone from a Portugal-based number.

Siddique received the message two days prior while he was travelling abroad. In the voice note, the caller identified himself as Zeeshan Akhtar and claimed to be associated with a gang. The caller threatened to kill Siddique, claiming he had previously directed an associate to kill Siddique’s father, Baba Siddique, two years before the murder took place. Zeeshan Akhtar is an absconding accused in the Baba Siddique murder case, in which members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang have been accused. The caller also stated that the threat was not financial, adding that he had no issue with Siddique’s wealth but objected to what he alleged was an illegal business.

Speaking to the media after registering the complaint, Siddique said the voice message warned that he would be killed in the same manner as his father. He noted that he had received earlier threats through social media as well. Siddique recalled that three to four months before his father was killed, his family was abroad and rumours circulated regarding a firing incident at their residence, yet his father’s security had not been enhanced at the time.

Siddique raised concerns about his current security arrangements, stating that seven of the eight police personnel previously assigned to him had been withdrawn, leaving him with one guard, alongside the 22 personnel previously deployed at his residence. He stated that the withdrawal occurred after his mother approached the court, and added that his family is not satisfied with the investigation into his father’s murder.

Siddique said he has forwarded the voice note to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharati, having also met the Chief Minister before going abroad to raise concerns over his security reduction. He mentioned that threats often arrive during hearings related to his writ petition, and stated he suspects a specific builder lobby may be behind them. Last week, his sister, Arshia Siddique, filed an NC at Bandra Police Station following another death threat received via social media during a court hearing.
