MMR SRA CEO Saurabh Rao Directs Officials to Speed Up Slum Projects in Thane

Chief Executive Officer of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Slum Rehabilitation Authority (MMR SRA), Saurabh Rao, chaired a high-level review meeting in Thane to assess slum rehabilitation projects across the region. During the meeting, Rao evaluated ongoing, completed, pending, and proposed schemes and directed senior officials to accelerate project execution and eliminate procedural delays.
Rao instructed the authority to establish seamless coordination with the Thane Municipal Corporation's Cluster Development Cell. He noted that slum rehabilitation initiatives must extend beyond the mere allocation of housing to encompass urban transformation, including robust civic infrastructure, public amenities, and community development to improve living standards for residents.
To ensure operational speed, transparency, and accountability, Rao mandated that every department within the SRA formulate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) aimed at establishing an efficient and scalable governance model.
The comprehensive audit examined administrative workflows, pending litigation, new project proposals, and the total land area currently under redevelopment across the region.
The review session was attended by senior executive officials, including Secretary Kalpana Jagtap, Finance Controller Kanchan Tawade, and Deputy Chief Engineer Rajkumar Pawar. The meeting concluded with a commitment by the administration to operate as an agile and citizen-centric redevelopment authority.
