MMRCC Assists Maharashtra Families to Trace Kin Missing in Nepal Flash Floods

MUMBAI — The Maharashtra Mountaineers Rescue Coordination Centre has initiated a statewide exercise to assist families across Maharashtra in identifying missing relatives and coordinating the return of mortal remains following recent flash floods in Nepal.

The initiative comes after the Maharashtra government requested the rescue coordination body to support families whose relatives remain untraced in the wake of the disaster. The MMRCC operates under the Akhil Maharashtra Giryarohan Mahasangh.

To facilitate the tracing process, the organisation's district-level network is actively reaching out to affected families across the state. The team is gathering essential details regarding the missing individuals and relaying that data directly to the state government.

Officials noted that the immediate priority of the exercise is to ensure that relatives do not miss out on the official identification process currently being conducted by the Nepal government and the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu. This coordination is considered especially critical in cases where visual identification is no longer possible and DNA matching is required.

Families with missing first-degree relatives have been directed to complete two specific steps to aid the identification efforts.

First, families are advised to check the Nepal Police's official online disaster portal, which contains photographs and details of recovered deceased individuals.

Second, whether or not the missing individual appears on the Nepal Police disaster portal, families have been asked to submit their details through the MMRCC's official registration form. The form collects vital identification information regarding the missing person, including their name along with Aadhaar or passport details, as well as the name, relationship, and contact information of the family member providing the information.
