MMRDA Fines Demolition Contractor Rs 25 Lakh After Mumbai Crane Mishap

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has imposed a penalty of Rs 25 lakh on a contractor responsible for demolishing an unsafe building in Mumbai following a crane accident.
Alongside the financial penalty, the development authority directed the contractor agency to provide financial assistance for the medical treatment of individuals injured during the mishap.
The contractor has also been instructed to pay compensation for hutments and vehicles that were damaged as a result of the crane incident.
According to official details, the structure involved in the demolition incident was constructed in 2005 by Housing Development and Infrastructure Ltd. (HDIL) under a Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) scheme before being designated as an unsafe building requiring demolition.
