MNS Ambernath City President Shailesh Shirke Arrested After Clash With BJP Workers
A physical altercation broke out between Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in Ambernath on Tuesday night over a dispute regarding the possession of a shop premises located at a BJP office. The confrontation led to the arrest of MNS Ambernath city president Shailesh Shirke by the local police.
The incident reportedly originated over the possession of the shop premises at the BJP office before turning into a direct confrontation between workers from both political parties. The altercation created tension in the surrounding area, prompting immediate police intervention to manage the situation and restore order.
According to police accounts, Shirke allegedly assaulted BJP workers during the initial dispute over the shop. The matter escalated further when BJP workers allegedly confronted Shirke within the premises of the Shivajinagar Police Station in Ambernath. During this secondary confrontation at the police station, Shirke was allegedly assaulted, and his vehicle sustained damage. Police officers intervened after the situation came to their notice and brought the matter under control.
Following the late-night clash, several BJP office-bearers and corporators, including BJP state secretary Gulabrao Karanjule, remained present at the police station late into the night.
The Shivajinagar Police subsequently registered a case against Shirke under various statutory sections, including provisions relating to assault, theft, and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Shirke was arrested shortly after the case was filed. Senior Police Inspector Pramod Patil confirmed the registration of the case against Shirke as well as his subsequent arrest, stating that a detailed investigation into the matter is currently underway.
At present, the police have not registered any case against the BJP workers in connection with the alleged physical assault on Shirke or the damage caused to his vehicle during the altercation on the police station premises.
Police stated that the incident has added to political friction between the BJP and MNS in Ambernath. Investigating officers are currently examining the sequence of events, evaluating the specific allegations made by both parties, and reviewing the circumstances surrounding the confrontation at the Shivajinagar Police Station. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing investigation, police confirmed.
