MNS Demands Fever Profile Testing at Nerul and Karave Civic Health Centres
The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena has demanded that the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation immediately introduce Fever Profile blood testing at civic health centres in Sector 48, Nerul, and Sector 36, Karave, following a rise in dengue and malaria cases during the monsoon season.
MNS Navi Mumbai city secretary Sachin Kadam submitted the formal demand to NMMC medical officer Dr Rajesh Mhatre. According to Kadam, residents living in Ward 26 currently experience significant inconvenience whenever they develop fever symptoms and seek medical care at the two local civic health centres.
Under current procedures, doctors at these facilities generally advise patients to undergo only a malaria test initially. If the result returns negative, patients often have to wait up to two days before doctors recommend further diagnostic investigations.
To access dengue testing, local residents are forced to travel nearly four kilometres to Meenatai Thackeray Hospital, which is currently equipped with a comprehensive Fever Profile testing facility.
A standard Fever Profile package includes diagnostic tests for dengue, malaria, typhoid, leptospirosis, along with a complete blood count. This combined testing allows medical staff to accurately identify the specific cause of a patient's fever at an early stage, with test results generally made available by the following day.
Kadam noted that the lack of this facility at the Sector 48 and Sector 36 health centres risks delaying crucial diagnosis and medical treatment, particularly during the ongoing monsoon period when water-borne and mosquito-borne illnesses are more widespread across the city.
Kadam stated that introducing the Fever Profile facility at the Sector 48 Nerul and Sector 36 Karave centres, modelled after the setup at Meenatai Thackeray Hospital, would spare local residents from travelling long distances and ensure prompt diagnosis and care.
Following the submission, Dr Mhatre assured the visiting delegation that the NMMC would work to start the testing facility at both civic health centres at the earliest.
The MNS delegation submitting the representation included city secretary Sachin Kadam, Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena department president Shankar Ghongade-Patil, deputy branch president Kiran Bedekar, Devidas Shinde, Prasad Tandel, and Aditya Surwade.
