MP Ravindra Waikar Orders Action Against Mumbai Developers Over Conveyance Deeds

Member of Parliament Ravindra Waikar has directed officials of the Cooperative Department to take proactive steps, including issuing notices, against developers who fail to provide conveyance deeds to cooperative housing societies in the Mumbai North West Lok Sabha constituency. The directive was issued during a guidance workshop aimed at helping housing societies secure legal ownership of their land and buildings.

Addressing the workshop, Waikar stated that District Deputy Registrars must monitor whether developers are transferring land and building ownership to societies after the completion of projects and the issuance of occupancy certificates, as mandated under the law. If developers fail to comply with these legal obligations, the Cooperative Department must initiate action by issuing official notices and facilitating the conveyance process.

The MP noted that many old and new cooperative housing societies within the constituency continue to face severe difficulties in securing legal ownership. This remains a persistent issue despite residents living in these properties for many years. The workshop was specifically organised to help these societies understand and complete the deemed conveyance process.

During the programme, officials from the Cooperative Department provided detailed guidance on the legal provisions, documentation requirements, and the online application process for deemed conveyance. More than 75 cooperative housing societies, represented by their chairpersons and secretaries, participated in the guidance session.

To assist societies that struggle to gather the required paperwork, Waikar instructed District Deputy Registrars to obtain necessary records directly from government agencies. These agencies include the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's Development Plan, Building Proposal, and Water Departments, among others.

Waikar urged the cooperative officials to take the lead in helping societies complete the conveyance process, emphasizing the need to provide long-awaited relief to flat owners who have been left without legal ownership of their properties.
