MPCB Directs BMC to Survey Mumbai Beaches and Enhance Cleanliness Measures

Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) Chairman Siddhesh Kadam has directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to carry out a comprehensive survey of all beaches in Mumbai and immediately deploy the machinery and manpower required to boost cleanliness.

The directives were issued during a high-level review meeting convened at the BMC headquarters in Mumbai. The session was held to assess the outcomes of a beach-cleaning drive carried out on August 17, 2026, and to address broader environmental concerns affecting the coastal city.

During the discussions, officials examined the problem of waste management along the shoreline, focusing on the significant volumes of plastic and other refuse entering the sea through stormwater drains and nullahs throughout Mumbai.

Following the assessment of the recent clean-up efforts, the MPCB instructed civic authorities to ensure adequate resources and targeted interventions are put in place to prevent debris from polluting the city's coastal areas and marine ecosystem.
