MRVC Floats ₹371-Crore Tender for AC Local Maintenance Depot at Vangaon

The Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) has floated a ₹371.49-crore tender for infrastructure development of a proposed AC local maintenance facility at Vangaon on Western Railway. The project, which includes a Periodic Overhaul (POH)-cum-EMU maintenance depot and stabling sidings, is expected to be completed within 36 months once a contractor is appointed.

The depot will be constructed on the western side of the existing railway line between Vangaon and Dahanu Road under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP)-3 and MUTP-3A. The facility has been designed to meet the maintenance and major overhauling demands of the expanding AC local fleet on the Western Railway suburban network.

The tender encompasses initial preparatory and infrastructure works essential for making the depot operational. These tasks include earthwork, embankment development, bridge extension, construction of retaining-cum-boundary walls, and road works. The project also features stabling sidings to park suburban trains when they are out of service.

The infrastructure work comes as MRVC prepares to procure 238 new AC local trains, which will be built across three Indian Railways production units: Integral Coach Factory in Chennai, Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala, and Modern Coach Factory in Rae Bareli. Under MRVC's timeline, the first prototype is slated for arrival by 2027, with the full fleet scheduled for induction by 2030.

MRVC initiated the tender process on August 12, 2026. Eligible contractors are required to submit their bids online by 3 pm on September 21, after which technical bids will be opened at 3.30 pm the same day. A pre-bid meeting has been scheduled for August 21 at 11.30 am.

Officials anticipate the depot will reinforce railway infrastructure beyond Virar and support the long-term rollout of AC local services. A separate facility capable of handling around 60 local trains is also planned at Bhivpuri for Central Railway.
