MRVC to Upgrade Six Suburban Railway Carsheds Across Mumbai Under MUTP-IIIA

The Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation Ltd. (MRVC) has announced major infrastructure development works to upgrade six Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) carsheds across Mumbai's suburban railway network, covering facilities at Kurla, Kalwa, Sanpada, Mumbai Central, Kandivali, and Virar.

Taken up under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP-IIIA), the works aim to expand and augment maintenance infrastructure across key rail hubs in the city.

According to officials, the upgrades are specifically designed to support maintenance capacity for longer suburban train rakes operating on the network.

The project encompasses critical locations across both major railway lines. On Central Railway, infrastructure enhancements will be carried out at the Kurla, Kalwa, and Sanpada carsheds. On Western Railway, upgrades will be executed at the Mumbai Central, Kandivali, and Virar facilities.

The planned works will strengthen the suburban railway maintenance infrastructure as MRVC proceeds with implementation under the MUTP-IIIA framework.
