MSEDCL Detects 22 Power Theft Cases Worth Rs 76.85 Lakh in CBD Belapur and Ulwe

The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has detected 22 cases of electricity theft amounting to Rs 76.85 lakh in CBD Belapur and Ulwe during August 2026.
According to officials from the power utility, the 22 cases accounted for the illegal consumption of 1,90,757 units of electricity. Legal action has been initiated against those involved under Section 135 of the Electricity Act, 2003, which penalises power theft.
The detections were made during a special anti-power theft drive carried out across the Bhandup Circle. The targeted campaign was conducted on the directions of Chief Engineer Sanjay Patil to crack down on electricity pilferage across the region.
