MSRDC Distributes Rs 138.45 Crore Compensation For Kalyan-Shilphata Road Widening

MSRDC Distributes Rs 138.45 Crore Compensation For Kalyan-Shilphata Road Widening

The long-delayed widening of the Kalyan-Shilphata Road in Thane district cleared a major hurdle on Tuesday as compensation letters were formally handed over to affected landowners. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has approved Rs 138.45 crore in compensation for properties affected by the project.

The distribution of compensation letters resolves a land acquisition dispute that had remained pending for nearly 35 years. Local farmers and landowners had previously resisted construction and roadwork until their compensation claims were settled.

The compensation documents were distributed in the presence of Kalyan Lok Sabha MP Dr Shrikant Shinde, Kalyan rural MLA Rajesh More, and MSRDC Managing Director Anilkumar Gaikwad.

The approval and payout clearance will allow the six-laning and concretisation of the Kalyan-Shilphata corridor to move forward. The route is recognized as one of the busiest traffic stretches in Thane district.

In addition to road widening, the clearance comes at a critical stage for regional mass transit infrastructure. The corridor is set to host major metro developments, including Metro Line 12, which connects Kalyan to Taloja across the Kalyan-Dombivli and Navi Mumbai region, alongside the proposed Metro Line 12A along the Kalyan-Shilphata stretch.

Clearing the land acquisition backlog is expected to facilitate construction on the metro projects and enhance the integration of road and mass transit infrastructure throughout the area.
