MSRTC Bars Drivers and Staff From Making Reels and Videos While on Duty in Maharashtra

The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has banned its employees from creating reels, livestreams, and videos while on duty, specifically prohibiting bus drivers from recording while operating vehicles across Maharashtra. The state undertaking introduced the restriction to ensure passenger safety and safeguard the organisation's public image.

Under the directives issued by the corporation, the ban applies to drivers, conductors, and other staff members during their work shifts. The restriction extends to any content recorded in uniform, whether at bus depots, bus stations, administrative offices, or inside state transport (ST) buses. Employees have additionally been barred from posting any videos or content on social media platforms that could tarnish the image of the corporation or depict it in a negative light.

Alongside the ban on personal recordings during working hours, the MSRTC has prohibited its personnel from sharing confidential or internal administrative details, documents, photographs, and videos online. The corporation has instructed supervisory authorities to take strict action against any staff member violating these rules. Department controllers, depot managers, and equivalent officers have been authorised to issue show-cause notices and launch formal disciplinary proceedings against offenders under existing MSRTC regulations.

The corporation has, however, created an exception for official promotional content, establishing a clear line between unauthorised personal posts and sanctioned digital publicity. Staff members and officials who are active on social media will be permitted to produce reels, shorts, and promotional videos showcasing the undertaking's positive achievements, provided they obtain prior approval from the competent authority.

Through this initiative, the undertaking aims to cultivate an informal network of internal influencers from its own workforce to broaden its digital outreach. Permitted content will focus on raising awareness about state transport schemes, passenger amenities, welfare initiatives, cleanliness drives, and road safety campaigns, allowing the corporation to leverage social media constructively while curbing unsafe recording practices on duty.
