MSRTC Launches Statewide Tree Plantation Drive From Vidyavihar

The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) launched a statewide tree plantation drive on Tuesday to celebrate its 78th Foundation Day, with the primary event held at the Mumbai Divisional Office in Vidyavihar. Transport Minister and MSRTC Chairman Pratap Sarnaik led the initiative at the Vidyavihar facility starting at 10:00 AM.
The environmental drive was executed across the entire state of Maharashtra, with plantation programmes organised at all MSRTC divisional offices, local depots, and various bus station premises. The initiative aimed to make a substantial contribution to environmental conservation and establish long-term green cover on the corporation's properties.
MSRTC issued strict guidelines to all its divisions regarding the types of trees to be planted. The corporation directed officials to select native, climate-suitable, and long-lasting tree species. These saplings were to be planted in available open spaces, with a preference for areas along the compound walls of the MSRTC premises.
A key focus of the drive is the ongoing care of the plants. Rather than allowing the campaign to remain a symbolic, one-day event, MSRTC instructed its officials to ensure regular and sustained maintenance of the saplings to guarantee their survival and growth.
The public campaign involved a broad coalition of community members and leaders. Local elected representatives, including Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), mayors, municipal council presidents, and village sarpanches, joined hands with local administration officials.
The event also saw active involvement from non-governmental organisations (NGOs), social groups, school students, citizens, and MSRTC's own employees, who participated in planting the saplings across different locations.
Highlighting the importance of the initiative, Transport Minister and MSRTC Chairman Pratap Sarnaik stated, "The statewide tree plantation drive being organised to commemorate MSRTC's 78th Foundation Day will not only contribute to environmental conservation but also reinforce the sense of social responsibility."
Through this initiative, the state transport corporation aims to foster environmental awareness, build green infrastructure around its transport hubs, and demonstrate its commitment to social and ecological responsibility.
