Mulund Construction Worker Dies of Electrocution, FIR Filed Against Contractor

A 26-year-old construction worker died of electrocution after coming into contact with an exposed electrical wire at a site near Sambhaji Garden in Mulund East, leading the Navghar police to register a case against the contractor for alleged negligence.

The deceased, identified as Sahjahan Ali, had been working at the Mulund East construction site for approximately a month. The incident occurred around 8:15 pm on August 12 while Ali and other labourers were carrying out construction work.

According to the police, Ali suffered a severe electric shock when he touched a damaged electrical wire linked to a halogen light. Investigators noted that portions of the electrical conductor were left exposed. Following the shock, his co-workers immediately took him to a nearby hospital in an autorickshaw, where medical personnel declared him dead before treatment could begin.

His body was subsequently transferred to Rajawadi Hospital for a post-mortem examination, where a medical officer confirmed the cause of death as electrocution.

During the initial inquiry, the Navghar police conducted a spot panchnama, seized the damaged wire from the scene, and recorded statements from other workers present at the site. Co-workers informed the police that the contractor, identified as 42-year-old Mohammad Azhar Ali, had failed to supply basic safety gear, including protective footwear and rubber gloves.

Police have booked the contractor for negligence and failure to provide mandatory safety equipment to his workers.
