Mulund Police Book Driver After Stray Dog Run Over Inside Nirmal Lifestyle Society

Mulund police have registered a case against an unidentified motorist after a female stray dog was allegedly run over and killed inside the Nirmal Lifestyle Society in Mulund West.
The incident took place at around noon on August 18, when the dog, known as Munny among society residents, was sitting on an internal road within the housing complex. According to the police FIR, an unidentified person drove a car at high speed and in a negligent manner, running over the animal and causing critical injuries. The driver allegedly fled the spot immediately without stopping to provide any medical assistance, causing panic among residents in the area.
Sadhana Ravindranath Maurya, 49, a resident of Opel Building inside the society, witnessed the aftermath and immediately contacted her daughter, 28-year-old Ritika Maurya. Ritika, an architect employed with Exium Global Pvt. Ltd. in Thane, told police that she has been caring for stray animals since childhood, regularly feeding them, arranging veterinary care when they fall ill, and holding a particular attachment to Munny.
Upon receiving her mother's call, Ritika rushed to the scene and found Munny suffering from severe abdominal trauma and heavy bleeding. She quickly dialed police helpline numbers 100 and 112 to request assistance and summoned veterinary doctor Dr Abhijit Kulkarni to attend to the injured animal. Dr Kulkarni examined the dog and subsequently declared it dead at the scene.
The Mulund police registered an FIR against the unidentified driver under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Motor Vehicles Act, and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act for rash driving, negligence, and animal cruelty.
Police officials are currently reviewing available CCTV footage from the housing complex to trace the vehicle and apprehend the driver. While society cameras did not record the direct moment of impact, footage showed a car passing through the area around the time of the incident as residents rushed toward the spot.
